I have a '94 VP 5.7 Gi that is giving me some problems. It won't take W.O.T. above 3500 rpms and it acts flooded for about 45 seconds when you kill it and restart it (misses and smokes, then suddenly clears up and idles smooth). I'm wondering if I buy a GM code scanner if it will work on this computer?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
The GM automotive code or scan tool will not work with a marine system. You can make your own code tool, here is the link:

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=010024#000000

I think you will find a trouble code, cause it sure sounds like you may have a bad sensor. Possibly the Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sender.

When a sensor is bad, the engine runs poorly until the computer decides that the feedback it is getting from the bad sensor is no good, sets a code and begins using a default setting (hence the sudden clear up).

Dave
