I know it's a de-rail, but what motor, what kind of revs you turning, sharp?

The boat in the video has a 540 Chevy on alcohol. It's good for 7,800 rpm. Back in 1989 it went 149 on a flying Kilo (5/8ths of a mile) turning an 11X17 prop 60% over.

You can "hop" these boats off on FLAT water. :cool:

Yep, raceboats just see nice easy use.

As to the original question, a marine tach will cost more and last longer, but if an automotive tach will work on your engine then there is no reason not to use it. (The only thing I can think of is that steel automotive bezel may start to rust streak after a while & that could be permanent staining.
