I have recently got a 1997-8 812, 42 lb thrust Autopilot with my boat purchase. It's hardly been used but I can't seem to get to work properly.
Problem: Push the foot pedal and the motor will run for approximately 1/2 second and then stop. It will not keep running. Wait 2 seconds, press the buttons again and it'll do the same thing. It does the same thing when you press the Momentary or Constant On. Battery indicator comes on like it's supposed to also.
Turning left and right is not a problem, works great.

Possible solutions: I took apart the foot pedal and gave it a look. Cleaned it up, same problem. Switches seem to be in great shape. I do not believe it's the foot pedal.
Battery: Hooked the battery directly to the trolling motor, eliminating any boat wiring problems. The battery is fully charged Same result.
I can't seem to figure it out!!
Any ideas?
Thanks
Dman

Could be the control board, could be the coil cord.Hook power direct to leads coming from lower unit and see if it will run.If so then check cont. of the coil cord.It is just an elimanation of what can be wrong.

I doubt this is the problem, but I would take the prop off and check for fishing line or anything for that matter wrapped around the prop shaft.

Re: Autopilot 812 Problem

Thanks for the advice. I think it's the foot pedal control board and the switches on it. I don't think they are making a good connection. I was told to raise the board a hair with a very small spacer so the switches and pedals make better connection. Trying that tonight. I'll keeo posting til I figure it out.
D
