Trying to install an Aux. Trim Switch on my '96 Force 40HP. Where's the best place (if any) to tap in for the 12 volts for the switch. I already have the solid Blue and Green wires going to the relays. Thanks.

if wired correctly the trim switch does not consume any significant power. You choice of power source should be determined by the ignition key. It is convenient to wire it up without key being turned (battery feed into starter solenoid) but then if there is a short you might burn up an expensive part. Pick the 12v source that you are comfortable with and wire it up.

Thanks for the replies. I'll tap into the power to the starter with an in-line fuse for safety.

Re: Aux. Trim Switch Power Source ?

For those who have read this post and my previous post on this subject and want to do the same thing just make sure you use the correct wires. Ole Dumb *ss here didn't pay attention and used the wrong wires - Instead of using the wires FROM the relays (mine are blue/white for up and green/white for down) I used the solid blue and green wires going to the trim motor - DUH. For the power source I tapped in to a red wire going to a fuse on the side of the motor and I put an in-line fuse leading to the trim switch just to be safe. I found a MOM ON -OFF - MOM ON switch at a local auto parts store for $7.00 so with that and the fuse holder (I already had the other items required) I have about $10.00 in this project (an OEM switch is +/- $60). I still need to get a piece of tubing that will fit over the toggel to make it water proof but I do have it fused just in case.

hot melt glue guns and self sealing silicone tape can waterproof just about anything.
