Just got a notice that AVG will cost after Jan. 15. 07. I guess they finally realized what a good product they had! I'll probably keep it for $30.00 anyway...

Re: AVG not free after the new year

The way I read it on their web site is they'll discontinue AVG Free 7.1 which is being replaced by AVG Free 7.5. I'm running 7.5 now on my laptop and I've got a few customers using the 7.5 on the network edition.

As I read it, they are phasing out ver. 7.1 on that date. They do have version 7.5 available for free download and usage. If you're running ver. 7.1 now, go get the new d/l and install as an overlay to the same folder as 7.1. In the install screen, pick 'Repair Installation' for the overlay.

Works just fine.....and still free.

Re: AVG not free after the new year

This is what I saw:

Pricing and Availability
GRISOFT now offers the option of a 1-year or a 2-year licence. The price of AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 starts at $29.95 for a one-year license and $38.95 for a two-year licence, which includes the option of free updates. A one-year license for AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 is available for $29.95. A two-year license for AVG Internet Security 7.5 starts at $69.95.

But I guess they still have a free version....

Oh for chrissakes....you guys need to start reading a little more before getting your panties all twisted. Damn thing is still free...just an upgrade. Business versions are for sale, and always have been.
"GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007"

Heres a link for the helpless......

I tried downloading and installing the 7.5 free version this morning, but the install failed. I'm running Windows 98SE. I'll try again later and see if it is happier.

Yes, they have AVG 7.5 out now, or out soon. They are not discontinuing AVG free.

Re: AVG not free after the new year

When I see bogus info posted, I'm calling the individual on the carpet. Sometimes the world's not as we would like it to be. If I read 1/2 of a book, I don't feel qualified to give out how it ends. I got around to installing 7.5 (they ALREADY have updates to the download!) yesterday on my Main and Laptop. Zero problem. And yes I DO know what I'm doing, and I got there through reading and education. Sorry if I get a little sassy at times, but the printed word can come across anyway the reader wants to interpret it. You should hear what I say and think in private. Mean no harm, just setting the record straight.

I think you came across loud and clear. As far as interpretation, I think I read you just fine....

AntiVir is another free anti-virus package.

You can also get a free version of Kaspersky (1 year license), generally regarded as one of the best A-V software apps out there.
