That depends on how you have it hooked-up. If it doesn't bypass the battery while running.<br />IOW, if you start it, then remove the battery, it could damage the components. But if the only thing done was to short-accross the start lugs on the solenoid (to keep from walking up to the helm and starting it), with the battery still hooked-up, you are fine.<br />The thing is, the current must have a place to go.<br />In most cases, the damage isn't immediate, and can take some time before damage occurs. But on very rare occasions, it's 'right now' damaged.<br />With the battery hooked-up, engine running, check the voltage. It should climb from 12 to 14VDC after you start it. If it runs, and the voltage gradually goes up, you have no damage.
