The new owner doesn't like skiing nor pulling water toys, wants a combo for cruising at half throttle due to high fuel consumption. So the zoomed pic confirms is passing under 2 ? If so, that's my sweet spot and I don't ski or pull water toys either lol !!
From the pic I can't tell where the wash is passing. If it is truly under #2, then OK, the boat should run acceptably without the churning identified in the first post.
However, if fuel consumption is an issue, and the operator isn't pulling toys, and thus doesn't need to make 90 degree rapid turns, then having it pass under the whale tail will give him better performance. First, the fin will do its job by getting the boat on plane fast with little bow rise, and then when running at half throttle it will be out of the water providing less drag and better fuel economy.
My SeaRay has a similar OB mount and transom configuration. I'm running the engine a little higher and achieving outstanding performance.
