I messed up I bought a lower unit on Ebay for my 1972 Evinrude 65 hp number 65273s
I bought a lower unit for an Evinrude 50hp.
I posted a thread here and only had a few responses but the consensus was it shouldn't be a problem to swap them.
Got the lower unit last night and it appears the driveshaft splines are different than what was on there.
Now I know it wasn't the original lower on their. The lower was from a 1970 60 hp it was a nightmare finding that out. It appears as if there are only 4 splines going into that motor. The lower that I bought has about 10 splines. CARP
So my question is how hard is it to swap driveshafts? Is it even possible?
Will it be a nightmare I have a manual but have done nothing more than reseal the lower unit. I have never done a major overhaul let alone on a hydro electric drive.
So is what I am thinking possible should I relist the lower unit and resell it? Got a great deal at $135.00 shipped I believe the solenoids in it are worth more.
