Hey guys! Some of you guys might remember the problem I had about chopping the rope into the cylinder while trying to keep the flywheel stationary:
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=016876

Well, I should have listened to you more of you guys. Now the piston from that cylinder overheated and MELTED!

I got most of the rope out by using a scope and some really sticky tape attached to a coat hanger. Well, I think I either missed some rope in the intake port, or the rings got bent up from the rope chopping. Anyway, it lasted about 20 minutes at an idle, then 10 minutes on the water before the meltdown.

So now what? I pulled the head... The head itself is fine. There was some melted piston that I could just flick off. The cylinder is another story. There is a very small crack on one side of it that extends down about 1 inch. The top of the piston is melted. It is locked in the cylinder, but it doesn't appear to be too bad. I am wondering how to get it loose. I didn't want to hit the piston too hard for fear it would expand and be wedged in tighter. I was going to drill a bolt sized hole in the middle of the piston, insert a bolt, and hit with a hammer.

Anyway, I figure there is a good chance you guys are going to tell me the block is shot. If so, what are my repair options? The only thing that is really shot is 1 piston and the cylinder wall. Someone told me I could get a 'short block' to replace? Can it be rebored? What are my options?!?!?!

Thanks in advance for all of the help! You guys are great!

BTW, I tracked down the thread where I got the advice:
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=002905
Dylan Mitchell did me in!! (although some might say it was my fault
)
