Re: Baby on the way!! How is this going to effect my boating

Boating and home life do not need to be balanced. For me, they are one in the same. My kids have been on the water since they were very young, one since he was an infant. Everyone in the family loves boating and it is something we always do together. My kids are 11, 18, and 21 now and they all want to go boating every chance we get. It is great that the older kids still want to spend time with the family and bring their friends around for the fun too.

VERY well put, my friend... As I posted in another thread earlier, ever since I got my tri-hull this past April, my relationship with my whole family has improved 100 fold.. granted I have had the 17' tracker deep v for a couple years now, but it's just not a boat for 'family fun' as it doesn't go very fast, isn't real stable at lower speeds/when anchored, basically just strictly a fishing boat.

Advice to the O.P. coming from a father of 3 boys (10yrs. old, 6yrs. old and 10 months old), it will be nerve-racking the first couple of times you take your baby out on the water, if you choose to do so... another piece of advice that I think is very sound... Don't go around asking 100's of people "How old does my kid have to be before I can take them out on the boat?".. if you ask 100 people, you'll get 100 different answers. In the end, you and your wife are the parents, you know your boating skills and what you feel comfortable with, and most importantly, you know your child... you will know when it is time, trust me. As a few others have stated, having a baby does NOT have to destroy your boating life.. the first 8-12 months will be hectic, and it will be hard to find the time to get out on the boat, but it is by all means possible.
