Calling all boaters....I am investigating some locations for my Bachelor Party, commencing June or early July 2008. I live in the Cincy area and would like to go somewhere that I can trailer my 19' Rinker (along with a couple other friend's boats and jet skis). So I was looking in a 5-6 hour drive range. I also want a place that has a really crazy atmosphere appropriate to celebrate a man's last single night with his friends (I think the Ozarks are too far away or I would go there). I was thinking of Cumberland and renting a house boat. Then dock near the 76 Falls area. Couple questions:
1) With the water level reduced is Cumberland, is the 76 Falls area affected? Is it still THE party cove in Cumberland? Any other better spots?
2) The timeframe is any of June or first weekend of July. Any recommendation for times? When is the poker run? Is July 4th too packed of a weekend?
3) What is a good place to rent a house boat from? I have heard one co-worker mention Alligator I marina. Thoughts?
4) Any other different lake recommendations from anyone? Norris? Dale Hollow? etc?

Alright everyone.....give me some ideas here for a man who is about to tie one on :) I am choosing for my last night to be on the water...my second love! [Honey if you are reading this or it is forwarded to you I mean all of this in the nicest possible way!]

Patrick, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but if your BP was slated for June or early July 2008, you've probably missed it.:D:D Ask your best man how it went.;)

DON"T DO IT!!!

Have your friends take you out alone w/o any of your own stuff. I would hate to see the party being remembered for the day the boat broke down...... and willing to travel 5-6 hours!!!

Wow! Just all you should get together and charter a boat w/crew and do a big fishing trip on Lake Erie or something.

I think you should do the charter thing. Leave the boat responsibility to someone else. Make sure you discuss your plans with whoever you hire. Have fun!

Oh crap....yes I meant June/July 2009!!!! Good thing I didn't miss it!

As for the idea of chartering, I hadn't thought of that...good idea. The fishing thing isn't exactly what I had in mind. But do they do chartering for houseboats where basically we would be renting the hosue boat and paying to have a "captain" do all the driving?

Putin Bay is a potential.....I did that for a buddies and it was great times. The only problem I had with it was it was just taking a boat to get to the island then it was just drinking at bars...I would rather go to Key West if that is what i wanted. I want something on the water and my boat is too small for Lake Erie. So that leaves a lake that I can take mine too. Unfortunately there aren't many "good" lake spots close to where I live....so yes 5-6 hour car ride is what I have to deal with.

Thanks everyone so far for the idea! I am interested in more info about Lake Cumberland and Falls 76 from people with personal experience (and recent experience with the lower water level). Alright....now that we know I haven't missed the party please keep the ideas coming.

i'd rent too. inviting disaster with a plan like that. either for you, a buddy, or your rig.

the groom shouldn't even have to pay for himself, tell your buds to step it up.

+1 on the "years ago" thing although my experiences were more like 30 plus years ago. Anyway, I do recall that excessive celebration always led to something breaking. Have no idea why, that sort of thing never happens anymore:redface:. I tend to agree with everyone saying don't take your own boat. A bachelor party is not the time to have to worry about "things"

How about Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake? There are several good party hang outs like the rock quarry.

Please be sure to have a designated driver on the boat...nothing will ruin a good time like a DUI on the water...

Put in Bay
Leave your boat at home.
Take the Jet Express out of Port Clinton
Have lodging lined up on South Bass.
Have a drunken good time.
PS: Open Container laws are insanely enforced on the island.
You have been forewarned.

Lake Cumberland is a GREAT CHOICE!!! No you can not get back to 76 falls until the water is back up:mad:, But Harmon Creek is the new Party Cove/Spring Break on the water. Bring Beads, lots and lots O' Beads;)!! Poker Run is awesome to. Get a house Boat on House boat row at State Dock and you will be right in the middle of all the action. Plus you will get to see the most amazing boats in the country. I went last year for the first time and it blew my mind!! Helicopters landing on houseboats, HUGE Cigarette Boats, Live Music, Floating DJ dance floor, and lots a pretty Kentucky ladies, that love the beads:D:D:D:D

It is a Dry County so BYOB, put in a cup, drink responsibly and designate a DD . The Water Patrol will bust you and take you to jail. Just an FYI....Not trying to be a Debbie Downer. Feel free to PM me if you want any additional details.

Conway...thanks for all the great info!!!!

And we will certainly be drinking & boating smart. Including DDs! Just good clean fun without the jailer involved! Keep the info coming.

Too bad the poker run date doesn't work for my timeframe....

Sounds like we are up between last weekend in June and July 4th weekend. I am curious some thoughts on the July 4th crowd....thanks
