There's a huge pull effort difference between 5 and 20 HP engines, specially for ladies or skinny guys. LOL!!

Happy Boating
When we get 20 if I would definitel instally electic start

Is 20 HP the max engine for that Zodiac ? a 340 wooden floor sib is generally for max 15 HP engine, check tech plate if so, or you'll be scary overpowering.

Its 20HP at the max for that boat. That is one sturdy little boat and I especially got that size cuz they had the biggest boyancy tubes at 50cm most other were 40 and 45. I heard the 20's are a monster to pull start. I will have to either upgrade to a bigger RIB not a SIB and put in the cnosole.

Zodiac lists 15 HP recommended max and 20 HP max allowable. There is a hefty weight difference between a two stroke 15 HP and a 20 which probably would be a four stroke. I would not want to manually carry a 15 or 20 HP four stroke around.

20 HP might prove to be a handful on the 11 ft 2 inch boat unless you were very careful in operating it. It could possibly be dangerous unless the operator were experienced. You might want to review your choice and possibly borrow a two stroke 15 HP for a trial run, as it would push that boat very well.

We have a 5hp 4 stroke, we transport it from car to boat with a trolly. I wont get a 20hp for this boat. I actually will be fine with this 5hp as we CANT DRIVE MORE THAN 5KM on any water body here except the Open Rhine and I tried that on Saturday and I will not go back on the Open rhine again. It nightmare waterway very scarey. Was even worst than my worst day boating in the Atlantic. this says on the plate max 20hp but I wont put such a powerful engine on this little boat. I wont be able to go faster than 5km anyways so why spend the money? Only use that will be to me will be the sea. They got some real restrictions here. Only 5km. I may as well walk.

I eventually wan tto upgrade to a 5km RIB. And when I do buy another engine it wont be brand new. Dealer sells good used engines and i wont spend thousands just to have a brand new one. Surely I can pick up a good second hand engine. With the amount of restrictions in Germany, boats are a dime a dozen and so are second hand engines. I will also pick up a second hand rib and not a new one. So right now, 5HP is more than sufficient cuz i still cant run it it to its max.

BTW a honda 4 Stroke the newer models weighs 104lbs I dont think that is so much for such a powerful little engine. the 5hp weighs 28kg. I think in general 2 strokes are much heavier. I wont mess with that cuz os oil and gasoline mixture. I just want one simple plug in and go.

Two stroke engines are lighter than four strokes as they do not have valves and the associated parts. The two stroke fires each time the piston reaches the top, so it does not have as many cc's as a four stroke of the same HP rating.

If the river over there is so conjested, then I can understand the slow speed limit. Be careful and enjoy your boating. I would imagine there is a lot to see on that famous river.

We here in the US have so much water to play in that we forget how conjested Europe is. We do have speed limits in places, but not that many. I read of the restrictions and cost of using some of the waterways there and just am thankful we have so few restrictions to deal with. I really enjoy seeing the pictures posted on this site, as you do have some very nice places to boat.

It's not a big issue who has less/more CC, the HP is rated at the prop, as an example, a 15 HP 2 strokes 250 CC compared to same 4 strokes 350 CC, both engines will produce 15 HP. The difference is price, fuel economy, weight & much quieter.

Tried to post and it failed. Ran Norton security quick scan and removed some issues. Trying now to see if it cleared up the problem.

Hon, the photos on this thread are not on the River Rhine, but the Bay of Brest which is the West Coast of France in Brittany. So that was ocean water. I have not posted the ones here yet but will.

the 5km is for ALL waterways except the main Rhine. All other water ways or arms of waterways are 5km it is not because of confestion. But because of protecting the nature. the waterwaysa re filled with swans, mallard ducks, geese, all kinds of birds and small critters so they try to make it a prestine area for calm boating. Yesterday we had some Geese bark at us, i was scared as the mammy goose was approachign really CLOSE like a cople feet barking at me like I was giong to hurt her babies. Scared the hell out of me I must say.

Ran anti-spyware multiple times, removed the auxiliary hard drive and its software. Machine sure runs faster and appears clean.

Geese have a bad streak and bear watching. Had one give the children fits while I was sketching the feather patterns on some ducks once. Then he decided to start on me, so I tapped him over the head with the clip board I was using to hold the pad of paper. He got the hint immediately and gave me a wide berth.

Anytime an engine is running less than planeing speed, it will sound loud. At the same speed, there is not much difference in the sound from a two and four stroke engine though, even though the four stroke would probably be quieter.

It would be nice if you could post some pictures. No way we will ever have the chance to visit overseas and see for ourselves, but we would like to see what it looks like over there.

Shocks, I just made a long post and lost it. Gruhhh

I will post pics here soon, as this week I am busy and have little time as my German classes resumed after summer break yesterday. I had intended on tapping the mamma goose on her beek if she came into the boat. She was a big un tho.
