1992 Nissan 15hp 2 stroke NSB152 Long Shaft. This motor was left in the bottom of a small dink with the lower end in salt water. The drive shaft housing and lower end were somewhat pitted and corrosion had taken a toll. The lower end was very difficult to remove and several bolts were rusted to the point the heads had to be cut off to remove parts. The lower mount brackets were broken and most of the rubber parts were rotted. The power head and everything under the cover appeared to be in pretty good condition and it was not frozen. I paid 100 bucks and guessed I could get it back in parts if needed but it looked like it could be saved. I Cleaned the Carb and filter screen and it started first pull. Also has electric start and kicks right over every time, very nice idle but could not run it for long as the water pump was shot. Anyway, everything is repaired, replaced, lubed and painted and I?m ready to bolt up the lower end. Last night I noticed the Water Pipe and Grommets are missing, this is the tube that fits over the drive shaft between the water pump and where the shaft slides up and into the power head. This appears to be a cover and only keeps water from getting to the bottom of the power head where the drive shaft enters. I think some repair shops may leave this off to make the lower end install easier and as the top end is above the water line this tube may not be required. Can anybody comment on this area, I?ll order the tube add install it to make it right but just wondering if this is common to leave this off.
