As I have posted before I had a problem with one 35 merc now I am having another problem with this 35 merc. If it would have not been for this 35 coming in and all of your guys help and a friend of mine we might still be fighting the last one. this ones carb solved all of my problems on the last one.

Okay here we go. We got this other 35 in. The work order said it would not idle. Before even really taken a close look at it I jumped in the boat to pump the primer ball and I noticed that the ball was not getting firm do to bad fuel tank. So we had replaced the fuel tank and complete line . Started to trouble shoot this motor later then found that the stator was bad, replaced it and had great fire. Now don't get me wrong the carb has been throuhly cleaned and we know for a fact that it is a good carb, cause it helped us figure that the last 35 problem was in the carb by using this carb on the last 35 but we still have no idle the motor will die if you try to idle it.
Then I rebuilt the fuel pump, rechecking the fish making shure everything was right and all seem to be well.

Later found out that the base gasket was leaking. Pulled the power head replaced the gasket put it back together still doesn't want to idle.

There is one thing that we did at the shop that did make this motor idle when bringing the idle lever down. (I don't recommend it to nobody or anybody under any circustances.)

AS running the motor on the hose we covered the prop to slow down the exhaust pressure (Remember! I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS) all of a sudden the rpm would pick and you could idle the motor as long as the prop exhaust was closed as much as we could get it. Now we have never had this boat at the lake but I want it to run good on the hose before I take it to the lake. The rpm's that it is gainig from the exhaust being closed off at the shop is not the Back pressure from the lake.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

THANKS!
Nick

Will this engine keep running if you keep prodding the choke when it's about to stall?Timing sync.also come to mind. What is your pick up timing and is it on the money? How is your compression?Any fuel spitting back at you from the carbs? All recirc lines connected and routed proprerly?Lots of ?'s only you can answer.

Compression is fine on this motor. The reeds i.m asuming are fine cause there is no gas spitting back trough the carbs. Sometimes if you choke it will run other times it dies way to quick. The timing for this motor is 27deg btdc wot. it does talk about a throttle pickup timing in the book. I had followed all the information in the book that related to timing and I think it is fine. Iwish I could get this boat started at the lake so I could check wot timing. I think it is in the fuel delivery system and I think when I get to work today I'm going to find a clear piece of hose to go from the fuel pump to the carb and see if I can't find something that way.

Any other ideas I"m all eyes on this forum.
Nick
