Backfire!!

my orig. post was wheres my spark...i found it now..however b4 i lost it the motor was backfiring and now its doing it again...i swiped the wiring diagram off here and made sure everything was hooked up right and it seems to be...also the flywheel key in in place.....so basically itll crank for a bit then BOOM! it chugs like it wants to start but...any sugg?

could be spark wires are reversed. Main cause is sheared flywheel key. If you dont torque that key correctly it can break and throw the timing off.

is there any secret to keeping the key in place when reinstalling the fwheel?

ok i checked the key again...it looked to be fine...i dont have a torque wrench right now...but i got a box wrench and a pipe and torqued the hell out of it...checked the wires and the wires to the packs and all are proper....STILL BANG!....im sure my neighbors really hate me right now

any final advice to someone whose tried everything? its going to the shop tomorrow :( $$$$$$$$$$

A very small dab of grease behind the flywheel key can be used to hold it in place. Or some permatex behind it.

Just make sure the taper on the crank shaft is clean as well as the inside of the flywheel.
