Now that spring is almost here,I have a bad case of 2footitis. Been looking at boats on te net in the 28-30 ft range. This is up from my 23ft cruiser.

It started when the Admiral was talking with her friends. They take their 28ft boat to the next bay and spend the weekend on it. So I started looking at boats more suitable for a weekend trip.

I did mention about selling ours and never got a definitive NO on the subject. I even think I have narrowed my search to a few brands. So far I like the Monterey, Sea-Ray, and Maxum. I am looking at something with twin engines but have never had a boat with twins before.

How do I convince the Admiral that the new to me boat would be all about her new boat?

Don't know if it would work for you but I took the admiral out in some REALLY big water fishing and casually mentioned "gee, it'd be nice to have a bigger boat".... she replied (and I quote) "no ****". Got the boat I wanted. :)

Hoo- boy. 3 years ago we went from a 24' express cruiser to the 27' in my sig, for exactly that reason. 9' 6" beam versus 8' 6", plus a few extera feet, and bang! We have a nice weekender for the 2 of us. We use it that way, too. A real galley with a 2 burner alky/electric stove, refrigerator, a standup head that we can actually stand up in, and a dinette that'll seat 4 comfortably when needed. And for those occasions when we stay at a marina... air conditioning and heat. Get one with a full 'camper' enclosure in good condition, and you'll love it.

You won't regret it. Nothing beats a cup of coffee in the cockpit while ya watch the sun rise. If we weren't 'done' buying boats, I'd be looking at a 30'.

(PS - up to 26-27 feet, you can sorta choose between 2 small engines (like my V-6's) or one big block and get somewhat similar performance and economy from both. Neither will be a world beater. Past that length, trust me- you want a pair of V-8's.)

For hat to work it I will have to wait until the summer. Even then I will have to be careful or I Amy lose the boat all together. Even on a calm day the swells on the north atalantic Amy be enough to get the job done.

Although it does give me a idea. We have quite a few whales around here in the summer. If I get a whale too close for her liking, it may work the same way.

That is exactly why I am looking into the 28-30 foot range. It will allow me plenty of "room to grow into". But it still won't be too big for me not to handle, with a little help from the Admiral.

Dan, it's definitely easier with the Admiral aboard, but I've become pretty proficient at 'single handing' the 27. Believe it or not, it's easier than my 24' was. Twin engines are a big plus, and the increased hull weight means it doesn't 'blow off' quite as quickly as the smaller baot did.

Ha Ha, I have been vaccinated for 2footitis with a small storage garage.
