Bad Choke Solenoid

I have a 1988 Force 125 with a choke solenoid that will only work after the engine has warmed up. I have to manually close the butterflies to get the engine to start. (hard to do if I am all alone in the boat)If I run the engine for a while and then shut her down I am able to restart the engine by pushing in the key which chokes the engine. I would say about 50% of the time the choke does not activate. Does anywone know where I can find a new choke solenoid or how to fix the one I have? I am also looking for a tilt trim lock if you have one.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Kevin

Sounds like a bad ground to me. Remove the solenoid and clean everything. I beleive the solenoid gets grounded though it's case. Remount the solenoid and see if that solve the problem.

Agreed....you have a corrosion prob. Clean up the solenoid, then run some small jumpers to it to check. If it works, see about splitting the box and clean the switch contacts. Or you can run a new set of wires and toggle switch to the dash. If its a solenoid, try a Merc dealer for parts info

I had a similar problem with my 125 Force engine.It's likely the problem is electical. What i did was clean all ectrical contacts and lube solenoid with a light lubricant made for electric parts. Worked like a charm ever since.
