Ok, Bad day on the lake. I bought this Glastron boat with a 85hp force. about 3 weeks ago( I have not taken it out yet, 1st time today). well about a week ago I found out the 2nd cylinder was not firing. Fixed that problem ( bad CDM (I) ).
Today I brought my family on this lake near us. well, we got the boat in all right and trolled out to past the no wake signs and opened up the throttle and heard this crack and the throttle got really loose. Well I tried to back away into neutral and no go, open throttle and can't stop:eek:, So I turned off the engine and came to fast stop. I looked under the throttle and this piece of hard plastic was broken off!!!
I tried to get this face plate off but did not have the right tools with me. Could not get into neutral. We waited there for about a 1/2 hour before a boat came and towed us back to the boat landing. Well another fun ordeal was about to happen . It was hard to get the boat up on the trailer enough to get some pressure off the back end. I managed to get the ratchet hook on and started to crank, I got the boat on about 3/4 and crack!!!! The pointed head that goes into the gears of the ratchet broke!!! I manage to get the boat out of the water and parked it. I went looking for a ratchet and found one and put it on and went home and had some beers.

Now I need to go find a throttle and out put that in.

My wife and kids (4 and 7) were not happy!!!

Man that stinks! And I thought that only I could have that type of luck. I learned my lesson, I always take a shake down cruise before taking the whole family or any friends! But them again these are used boats and sometimes they break. Then again I've seen brand new boats become stranded! Usally caused by a 50 cent part. Go luck and have fun!:)

Yes, I know... towing with a bumper hitch isnt good... i was only going 5 miles with 1200lbs... guess that was too much. Now I know WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER USE A BUMPER HITCH, especially one that shows signs of fatigue.

Then, this happened...

I recently discovered Leinenkugal Sunset Wheat YUMMY! Don't discouraged. First couple outings in a new to you boat are often problematic till you get all the kinks worked out. My first 2 or 3 trips were disasters but since then things have been good.

Ezmobee Thanks for the encouraging words. Yep 1st boat, bought it form my neighbor for 1000.00. Its a starter boat, maybe in a few years I'll get newer one. I all ready purchased a new remote control on ebay yesterday. I disassembled the broken remote control and hopefully the new one will be here in a few days. I hope its as easy putting in as it was taking it out. I only need the one with no electrical. Now knowing what I know now, I wish I had a 3/8 socket with me yesterday and I could of gotten the throttle handle off and ran the cables by hand ( at least close to the landing). And I educated myself for 2 hours last night on how the throttle and idle work together in the engine. If that happen again. (I could run the throttle form the engine while wife drives)

Here's what it looks like, its the ad from 1972. My wife just loves the wording they use

Wow! Andy I think Gary might be on to something here. I think that little truck has seen its last tow. But really mods you should put that in the trailer/towing section for the next dude that says nah its only 5 miles what could happen.

Actually, towing with a bumper hitch is just fine as long as you don't exceed the rated capacity and this photo shows that. The bumper is completely intact - it is the frame member that failed a couple of feet away from the bumper to frame connection point.

I don't think I would drive this vehicle at all until the frame is fully inspected. My guess is that the next thing to come loose will be the rear axle!
