Ok, I know this is a boating forum but today I think I understand the concept of the effects a full moon is supposed to have on people.
I was on my way home from work today. I left early to drive my daughter to her art classes.
As I drove into my neighbourhood and start around a gentle turn (It's important to note it was a gentle turn as you can see around it as you approach it) I noticed a father with his two young boys on their bikes.
I'd guess the boys to be around 4 and 6. Dad was watching them as the traffic on the road between the park on the other side was busy but normal in an urban neighbourhood. He was teaching the little guys the proper way to cross the road with their bikes.
Since I noticed them and there were no cars coming the opposite direction, I stopped to allow him time to have them cross. Not 1, or 2, but 3 cars swerved around me into the opposing lane with total disregard for this man and his children. As each passed, they looked at me like I was a complete idiot for stopping in the middle of the lane.
The father eventually crossed safely and thanked me for stopping. However, I have to be honest, my initial thought was to drive around the neighborhood and seek out this idiots but common sense prevailed.
However, one of these geniuses lives just down the road from me. As I passed by her home she was in the driveway carrying a purse and removing her 3-4 year old son from the rear seat of the car, oblivious to what she'd done. I wonder what her reaction would've been had it been her and her son on the bikes at the time. I was too angry to stop as my mouth would've got me in trouble, but in the next few days, I plan to 'educate her' on proper driving and attentiveness in a neighbourhood full of small children.
I wonder if I'll ever see these idiots again? I write this as I look at the window and notice the glow of the full moon. Could that be the reason? Nah, just wishful thinking.
I'm sure I'll bump into them again. Most likely at the ramp launching their boats
