Have a '77 OMC I/O stringer with a 302,(yeah,don't say it!).
Can anyone tell me an easy way to clear the old gas out of the tank?
Can't get a siphon hose past 6'4" from the fill location. Not sure exactly what the blockage is.
How about from the fuel line in front of the separator?
Thanks.

Re: Bad gas

Pull it thru the fuel line by disconnecting before the filter and sucking it to a catch jug. They make these little siphon doohickies that have an inline bellows pump you could use. Only thing is they are way slow and any blockage that a filter would catch might get in that too. You could use a siphon that is primed with a little real gasoline too.
6' 4" sounds like a long fuel fill tube, where is the tank in relation to the fill point? Can you get to the top of the tank? If so you could remove the fuel sender and suck it out of there.

Ask around at your local marina for a marine service company that "polishes" fuel. They can come to your location or marina and get the water and any other crud out. They connect to your fuel system and pump the fuel through filters and return the fuel to your tank or properly dispose of it.

If there is an access port for the top of the tank then as stated earlier, pull the fuel sender and siphon it out from there. I had to do that at the beginning of the season.

Re: Bad gas

Thanks guys, since the tank is not accessible, I'll try to drain the line coming from the tank to the engine compartment.Actually should be able to connect it to a temp line and run it out the drain hole.Probably have to clean all lines, carb, filters, etc as gas has been there for 5 years...it has additives, and I've run the motor briefly every year, but now it seems to have turned to varnish...like I've read here!
Thanks again, and wish me luck...I may get it on the water before cold weather yet.

Ok well dagnabbit ur right...... I KNOW I've seen this question many times and answered it quite a few but I did a bit of searching and didn't come up with much..... not real impressed with the search engine

ANYWHOOO The solution is to go get a cheap generic electric fuel pump and wire it to a battery with a hose going to the tank...... Do this in a well ventilated area (outside with a slight breeze) ..... although your 5 yr old gas probably isn't as dangerous as new you would do well to assume otherwise
