This is on a 2003 18ft.Sun Tracker pontoon boat. Battery was shorted out. grounds at bat were crossed with postive terminal [friends boat] NOT ME .We repaired wires but lost ground circuit to stering concel . I ran a battery ground to hull by bat. than stering concel ground to floor board . just like a car . works great but is it OK to run ground through hull ? wounder why they didnt from factory.
Thank you for the help . I will run a new ground wire
direct . INJOY THE SUMMER !

Not okay to use the hull as ground, Mike. It is okay to ground the hull, but you need to run grounds to your steering console.

Re: bad ground at stering concel

you create electrolysis when you do that, which will slowly eat away your metal pieces of your boat...

it is an unfortunate term "grounding" in a boat, but that is what they use.

By grounding the hull, you are just getting it to the same potential as everything else so you don't have stray currents running through it. You only want to ground it one place if you can. Run a seperate ground to your console from the battery.

Connecting the ground(-) to the hull/metal is called "Bonding"
