Bad impeller? or?

Hello, I have a 1977 johnson 55hp, after running the motor for a couple mins it quits spitting water and eventually the warning goes off. If I shut the motor off and then restart it the water begins pumping back out the holes again. I am thinking that the impellar is shot, Is this a good assumption or is there something else I should look at?

If you haven't replaced the impeller recently, that's the first thing I would do. Then look at the thermostat.

I agree with your assumption that the impeller is bad. Replacing the impeller isn't a hard job at all. Basic tools and a little patients.

Thanks guys, that was my thought but I guess I just wanted a second opinion.
