I have heard it's bad luck to re-name a boat. I'm not superstitious by any means but was wondering if this is a widespread notion or not?

When you buy a used boat with an existing name do you inherit the name or get some new lettering on there and call her your own?

My boat was bought used and had no name so I felt free to name her.

Just some food for thought, I named my used, prev. un-named boat & have been having a few problems I did not have before. I think I'll need to re-read that thread as well. Hope it fix's my issues.

it may be bad luck to rename a boat, but it's worse luck to keep a name your wife/girlfriend hates (Chick Magnet, Wet Dream, Babe Runner/Babe Liner, Jug Jiggler, etc.)

Haha...Jug Jiggler!

I named my boat after a GF. A classic mistake perhaps as we broke up but the names stays and I'm still in love with her........the boat not the girl =)

Would be bad if you bought a boat with some woman's name on it. I bet most owners will remove the name when it comes to sell it. What happens if the new owner keeps the name and you named it after your g/f lol...For the really superstitious they might go find a new g/f or wife that shares the name of the boat, so they don't have to worry about bad luck.

bought my boat its name is "time out" my luck with it so far has been in and out being omc,

1 there out of business
2 the esa acted up
3 now backfires if i am wot for more then a mile
4 awsome fishing boat because i can go out with 2-3 foot rollers and not look at those little 14 foot jon boats getting in my way
5 it got me a job, the owner of this factory likes salmon fishing and i told him i had a boat he said your hired as long as you take me a few times a year, and he pays for the gas!!

i thought about changing the name but then i can no longer say "i am going to spend some "time out" and about"
