Hi guys,
Well I got my rebuilt pontoon to the ramp this morning and went to launch and the motor got hot before I got it off the trailer. Called my local dealer to see if he had a water pump (I just put a new impeller in the old one) and he said he did. I went and got it and went home and pulled the lower unit. Installed the new pump and went back to the ramp and launched again. Motor started and after a few seconds the teletale started a full stream. That's the good news. I cruised around for hours at various rpms trying to break the newly overhauled motor in and everything went great. I have grieved over that motor all winter. First time I overhauled a boat motor. It looks like we did o.k. I don't want to crow about it just yet as I know what can happen if I do. But I came home happy today. It starts with a touch of the key and idles at about 800 rpms and shifts good and purrs like a kitten with the fuel jet screws adjusted like the book says for the carbs. I don't think I want to mess with them as well as it runs. I've been a long time waiting for this as I completely rebuilt the pontoon from the aluminum up and the motor and trailer. Now I think I trust it to go out alone. Thanks to all on this forum for the good advise you gave this winter. I have learned a lot from you guys and I think I can pass along some tips to newcomers. Happy boating..............................Jerry
