I was doing some maintnence on my boat today changing out some fuel lines and I felt a soft spot in the floor. Being of the curious nature I got out the trusty hole saw and drilled a hole and guess what?

NO FREAKIN WOOD..... it all wrotted away, there was absolutley no water or moisture at all but the wood was toast. Anyone wanna buy a boat.

you got two choices.....lol.....sell a worthless project boat....

or come join us in dry dock....(boat building and restoration) :D

i just did a demolishion on a campion deck, stringers, foam and transom.....total in 16 hours.....

another 16 hours....and it will be completely fixed....better than new.

total cost......aprox 600 in materials......(this does not include the beer)

Re: Bad news.

I was thinking about it but it really is not my dream boat. There is too many factors pushing me away from a restore, first I want a bigger boat with a larger motor, second I want a V hull, third this one was owned by a couple of old men that fished like no other on it and didn't really take care of it(I am suprised it had a chance to wrot away with all the fish oil soaked into everything). This just seals the deal on getting what I actually want. I will probably see you in dry dock with the new one seeing how I don't have much money to spend anyway.

Re: Bad news.

Wasn't this the boat that the Girlfriend didnt like?

If so, I guess you may be trading that jeep afterall!

Sorry to hear about your boat my friend...

But if you do feel like putting it back in shape, there's plenty of help to be found here!

Yes it is the boat she don't like (Maybe she had something to do with this). I just put the jeep up on CL for trade just to see what people are offering. I am still taking the boat to the mountains this weekend, no sense letting this ruin my weekend and then I will decide if I keep it, part it, or sell it. I really don't want to sell it whole unless the new person is fully aware they may fall thru the floor if they hit a big wave.

My 67' starcraft is probably in the same shape as yours under the floor. I have no intentions of checking til I do fall through the floor though. I didnt pay enough to be worried about it sinking. I have no problem strapping the battery and trolling motor to my back..... Not sure that it would work ... but I'd try.

I have always wondered why you would spend thousands of hours and thousands of dollars extending the hull on your own boat. Now I know - it has nothing to do with the boat project .... it's the beer! :D

Re: Bad news.

don't feel bad I just got one with a soft spot. I'm not even going to look. Taking the motor off and selling the boat and trailer to a waterman/duck hunter who won't care or who will fix it. It still runs and floats; who cares? Not a crabber.
