I believe my bait pump is a 2002 and it is used on a 30gal bait tank. Does anyone know if you leave the bait pump on (I did for about 20min) while the boat is out of the water, will the bait pump burn up? Similar to the impeller on a lower unit. Any input is appreciated...thanks.

Re: Bait Pump Question

Lots of models of pumps. Many if not most do not like to run dry. Too be safe just do not run it dry as no reason to run it dry. Some pumps just like bilge pumps can be run dry.

Most boats will have two pumps a fill pump and a circulation pump. Some pumps will say if can be run dry or not. Look at the pump and get the model then search for specs on it.

Re: Bait Pump Question

Chances are the pump is ok since 99% of livewell, recirculation and baitwell pumps are centrifugal pumps and have plastic impellers which means there is no physical contact with the pump housing.
