Bait tank pumping water intermitantly

I'm not sure what kind of pump I have installed but I think it's located in the wrong place. Its located in the bilge pan in the back bottom center where a bilge pump should be. The intake is right next to the drain hole.
When the boat is at a troll or stop the water pumps fine, but when I get up on a plane the water stops flowing. I think it's because of all the bubbles turned up in the back of the boat and it's just sucking air.

Where should the intake hole for the bait tank be located?
Thoughts appreciated.

Where you have it is the normal place. Most turn it off when running at planning speeds as the intake will not be in the water. Then when you slow down turn it back on. I guess you could mount the intake thru the bottom but that is not normal for most boats.

it's where it belongs, it won't do any better thru the bottom. you could put a recirculating pump in the tank, if worried about bait dieing on a long run. walmart sells a simple but effective one.

Ok, thanks for the info. I will pickup a recirculating pump to keep the bait alive. Is that the same as a aeriation pump?
