Hi guys...

Last time I was out.. I noticed that my motor was vibrating really quite badly... it is not the motor I think since it is smoothly accelerating up the rev range....

There was a chip in the prop awhile back, that was filled in at an engineering shop.. but they didn't balance it or anything..

The prop looks even enough.. there are no kicks, it looks symetrical on all blades... so it wouldn't be badly out.. but how much out is bad?

Who can balance props?? and what should it cost me to do so??

assuming that is isn't the prop, what else would cause excess vibration..???

I realise a Johnny 100hp V4 (1972) won't run like a honda four stroke.. but I don't think it should be vibrating like this either...

Any advice would be much appreciated.

regards

Franki

Franki: Balancing and truing of a prop is best done at a good prop shop. They have the equipment to do it and check it. Cost...I don't know, but imagine it shouldn't be too much. It dosn't have to be out very much to cause vibration and, like you, I would suspect this first.

Thanks....

I suppose that if its more then 50 bucks.. I should just get another prop and keep this one for a spare...

I don't know of any prop shops in this end of the world.. have to ask a few boat places..

thanks.

rgds

Franki

Re: Balancing Prop.

I went to replce my prop two days ago and found out that to keep the pitch I enjoyed a new one would cost me $160. I asked the Marine tech if he could recondition it. He said a company comes every Saturday to pick up props to restore and balance 100%. The cost? $65.00. Hope that helps.
Brian
