I have a 1987 110 Johnson outboard and while running at full throttle it slips for a milli second and then clunks then goes fine and then does it again not really a clunk but like a bam the bam is like it hits engagement would this be the dog clutch being worn or would it be something else

I very rarely see the clutch dog on a V4 go out. What you're describing sounds like the pinion gear going. When it goes, little chunks of gear get caught between it and the other gears and slam the pinion gear, and by extension the driveshaft, upwards giving you the slamming sound...

In any event, it sounds like you need to get the unit apart and inspect the innards...
