Re: banging noise

ok I think the best plan of attack is to buy a used drive or upper. there is one on ebay however it was from a v6 model and the GEAR RATIO IS 21:20.. the seller claims I can change the prop pitch and not have any problems...not only do i have a v8 but I replaced my 305 with a 350 4 barrel carb. I am probably pushing 300 plus horsepower.. my boat currently sips fuel and I would like to keep it that way.. am I ok with these gears..

5.7

upper 21:16

lower 14:26

total .71

overall 1.41

Nope ain't gonna overcome that with prop pitch.

Good luck, i guess you don't have a manual. Last time, about 35 bucks for the seloc.

Re: banging noise

can someone explain to me what would happen if I used the upper with the GEAR RATIO 21:20 as a replacement to what I have with my v8 drive. would it get worse gas mileage and higher rpm's. would it get more speed? how would it affect me if I get this drive cheap and bolted it on.

Re: banging noise

you would be over or under propped very big it would either lug or allow your engine to wheel... either way it will short the life of the engine. Get the right ratio. Don S always chimes in about now and says that you can't fix a ratio with prop.
