Can any one tell me where to get a base gasket for a 1960 evinrude 18hp fast twin? I recently replaced the power head with a 1964 power head and the old base gasket was to torn up to even consider reusing. I coated the gasket area with permetec hoping that it would form a suitable gasket, but when I Crank the motor there is a leak and after a few seconds the motor starts to run rough as water is splashing into the lower cowling. It will eventually cut off, but it will idle very smoothly for the first 3 or 4 seconds.

Does any one have a source for these older gaskets? Anyone know what part number I should be looking for? Does anyone have a solution or know what I could use in place of a gasket that would not leak? Thanks Carl

306199 Powerhead gasket. Takes two--one above and one below the baffle plate. Any Evinrude dealer.
