Dumb question for some BUT, im currently playin the prop game. Do i prop for how i normally run(people/gear/ect). OR prop dry weight. I have a hog of a boat. 26.5ft 5000k deckboat. Currently has a 4blade 14.5x20 alum. the lie-o-meter says 36/37mph. Wot is 5000k with 3ppl. If i put about 500lbs more it drops to 4700/4800. ('98-2000 5.0 vortec hds and roller lifts. 2bbl). ????

I prop to how I normally run. When I have a lighter load I just watch the tach and make sure I stay below the max rpms.

To dial in a prop, you need to make sure your tachometer is accurate, and you need to know your GPS speed ( use a free GPS app on your smart phone if you don't have a navigation GPS )

As you add more load & passengers wot range will drop accordingly. With how many boaters do you go out usually ?

Which HP and brand engine are we're talking about ? what's the max wot range factory stated for that OB ? As an example, say 5500 rpm. If you go boating with usual 7 passengers, dial a prop to rev at full wot revs of 5500 rpm, if going with just 5, OB will over rev, so throttle less watching tach as suggested by CV16. OTOH, if you dial a prop to achieve max wot rpm with just 5, when with 7 OB will rev around middle to min wot range.

As a second example : If my particular case with a maximized prop, with one up my OB over revs. With 2 up revs at full max wot rpm range. With 3 up revs right at middle of its wot range. With 4, sorry, the forth will be left at the marina, no way will lug my OB. So have limited may max carrying passenger capacity to just 3. Prop and number of passengers are sometimes very difficult to dial for spot on top wot runs.

Question --- Can anyone help me with what prop I should consider?
Details:
2004 Sea Ray, 18.5 feet bowrider
190 HP Mercruiser I/O; 1.81:1
Present stock prop, 14 x 23P (3-blade)
About 4000 RPM and 34 MPH with 6 people in boat.
Used for cruising and water-skiing

Thinking about 4-blade aluminum or 3-blade stainless. Thanks......and I'm not sure if I should have posted here or created a new forum question....would if I knew how. :)

You just jumped into someone elses thread. Start your own. Your action creates confusion as to which person one is responding to.
