basic value of a broken outboard

I am the proud owner of an 85 90 hp crossflow motor with a broken ring on the lower port piston. There are several things that have recently come up that won't allow me to do a rebuild and am going to put it on CL. Any ideas what to ask? Not set in stone, but a reasonable amount.

Things that I have done: Water pump (complete) , rebuilt the carbs (complete) , new coils, plugs. Lower unit is good and shows no leaks of fluid. Hood and sections are good also.

The cylinders are not beat up and scored and the three held 125 psi prior to taking the head off to find my problem.

Thanks for any replies.

$500.00 might be high, I picked up a 95' in the same condition for $100.00, but if you find the right guy....

I certainly don't know you situation. But if you really don't need the money presently, why not just keep it until you can fix the ring? You seem to have worked on it previously. So maybe just hold on to it for later. JMHO

If it has trim and tilt, maybe $300-$400. No trim and tilt, $200, if the lower unit is in good shape.

If it's only a bad piston ring, I would keep it for a latter full restoration, why sell it for peanuts cost. Someone who has same model would probably pay more for it.

Part it out. Lower unit, ignition parts, heads, block, prop, wire harness upper cover, lower cover, carbs, fuel pump, etc. Would likely bring well over what the complete but non-operational motor would bring.

I second the idea of parting out.Always worth more that way.The lower unit and the tilt should bring 3-400

They typically are worth more in pieces, but what I normally see is that when you try to get an old motor apart things are stuck, so it becomes more work, then the three things that are of any value sell and you're stuck with the rest of the motor. I prefer the the zero work method and sell it as is in one piece. This doesn't mean it's the only way, just what I do.
