It is "ebasicpower" - and while they have good prices, they have THE WORST customer service of any place I have ever used. Period.

Charlie, I wouldn't get excited yet. Their site may be down for maintenance or problems.

Fisher, I never had any problems with them.
Quick service.
Excellent inventory of aftermarket OMC parts.

Re: Basicpower parts supply gone??

They're fine until you need to return something. I ordered a transom seal (the big foam rubber o ring) from them when I replaced the Alpha one transom assembly on my boat. It was a bad part I received. It appeared that the glued end had come apart and instead of a big circle, it was like a piece of foam rubber rope. No big deal, I called them and explained the problem and they said to send it back. I returned it to them. They sent me another part. Same thing. I called them again and they cussed me out and told me to return the part and never order from them again. I kid you not! I hadn't been rude on the phone or anything and was shocked at the reaction I got from them.

About a year later my dad needed some parts and so I reluctantly ordered from them again. The parts never came in the mail, so I called to check. They actually have me on some sort of "black list" and won't even sell anything to me. They didn't bother to mention anything - even by email when I ordered, just didn't send the parts. All this because I returned defective parts twice.

Needless to say they will never get my business again.

Not that they would take it either apparently!

I have never had a problem with them at all.Best prices, fast and free shipping and no tax.I usually find what I need on line and then call them and have them make sure I have selected the correct items and #s and order it on the phone.I like doing business that way.Charlie

Those seals aren't in a ring, and they are too long. You glue them into the groove as you go, then cut to length and put glue on the ends. Merc, Volvo, OMC, all the same.

YEAH MAN! I"ll NEVER order a bolt from them again. I'd rather pay twice as much somewhere else. Anyone that sends me wrong part, they tells me I"M wrong for bitchin, can kiss my arse...I hope they fold.

Forgetting about my experience good or bad with this company for a moment... Don - that was my first time to ever replace that seal so I wasn't sure what it was supposed to look like. After receiving the part I posted the question here on Iboats, (it's been a number of years ago) and was told it was supposed to be in a circle. After going through what I described in the above post, I went to the local Mercruiser dealer and the part I received was in fact in a big circle. Since that time I also replaced the transom assembly on my dad's boat, (same vintage Mercruiser Alpha one, gen one assembly from the late 80's). The part we received from Mercruiser for that replacement was one big ring as well. No need to cut and glue.

Now that's my limited experience with this part, but both times the correct Mercruiser part was sized to fit and in one complete ring.

Re: Basicpower parts supply gone??

I will tell you guys a quick story about a place right by my house called J&J marine.I needed the tiny crush oring that goes between the upper and lower of a mercruiser drive sealing the oil passage.I have plenty of them ,I just didnt have one with me.Well the parts guy looked for the price on the microfische for 10 minutes after he placed the oring on the counter. Then he says give me 5 bucks, like he is doing me a favor.I gave him his 5 bucks and never set foot in there again. If he was a savy businessman,he would have tossed it to me and said have a nice day, which would have put him out .05 cents and kept a customer with a smile on his face to return when something else was needed.Instead he made a net profit of $4.95 and will never see me again. He is not too smart!!! Just wanted to share that .

Re: Basicpower parts supply gone??

ok,we have one here also...very rude too.
I had a starter go out on the water, they towed me in so i thought i would just let them do the work. Told them to change the oil while they had it.Well over a month went by and they finally got the starter put on.I got it home and noticed the same old oil filter was still there.
So for 600 bucks all i got was a starter...I called the owner and he got a nasty attitude and hung up.
I now do all of my own work.

Re: Basicpower parts supply gone??

Well......back to EBasic Power....

I have bought a few things from them and found them to be courteous and helpful.

I bought service parts for my Wonderful King Cobra and spoke directly to them on the phone about it.

I think you'll find that those sort of problems can happen with any supplier that thinks someone is sending back parts that are not "defective". If either party gets, shall we say, "huffy" about it, it could escalate. They should, either assume the customer is always right or try to explain how to fix the problem.

As everyone knows, when your profit margins are very tight, you have to move a lot of parts out the door and cut (customer service) corners if you're going to provide parts etc at rock bottom prices AND STILL MAKE MONEY!

If you want someone to spend a lot of time on the phone with "telephone tech support" you'll have to pay for it either in higher prices or higher shipping/handling or both.

Rick

Crazy Charlie. I too stopped dealing with J&J on Hallock Ave. a long time ago. The problem was in the pricing for shrink wrapping. They were 50% higher than the going rate at the time.
