Hello everyone. I am in prep to pull the cap off of my 1982 Glastron Hpv165 for a restore. Can anyone post any information on how to build a lifting frame out of lumber so that I can lift the cap and the hull if needed?
I have to build it inside of my garage and can't use the beams in the ceiling to do it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Pretty basic stuff. Two 2x4's and 2 1x4's. Lift the ends of the cap and run the 2x4's under the cap on each end. Run the 1x4's the length of the boat and screw them into the 2x4's Use soome C-Clamps to clamp the cap to the frame and then get some friends to lift her up and off. You can store her out side tilted and leaned up against the side of the garage and covered with a tarp or where ever you might have room. She might weigh 3-400 lbs so make sure your friends are up to it!!!!:joyous:

Re: Bass boat cap lift.

Hey, thanks woodonglass. The frame underneath the cap idea never occured to me. I was just going to use the deck moreing points to tie on to and lift it up. As far as storing it outside, There is probably going to be quite a bit of snow out there very soon so I am taking up both parking spots in the garage for a side by side operation(the wife is pretty pissed about it)so i intend on leaving it next to the hull.
Help is pretty undependable around here lately so I am going to build an overhead frame of some kind to lift it up with, drive the hull out on the trailer and drop the cap back down on some horses. Have you had any experience with building such a lifting frame that could handle the weight of this operation and possibly lifting the weight of the hull off of the trailer to flip it over?
Thanks again for the reply and plan!

Howdy maryhannaj,
Noticed you are working on a bass boat, so obviously I got curious to see what's up...
I would like to come aboard to watch, learn, cheer you on and maybe help out a little...
Here's a couple of pics of how I did my De-cap-itation...
Threw together some very basic gantries, some ratchet straps and went to town...
Had it lifted in less than a few minutes, by myself, no problemo...

Made sure everything was separated...

Built the back gantry and started the lift...

Tied off the back half, built the second gantry, making sure that it was wide enough for the trailer with the hull to pull through and lifted the front half...

Then I just pulled the trailer out from under and set the cap on some horses...

Good luck and have fun!
