Re: Bass Boat Crash Vid

yep, that's a good video to recommend the use of a pfd and kill switch lanyard...

last weekend at my local lake. 2 dudes died after being ejected from their bass boat. no pfds and no kill switch lanyard attached. one drowned, one got chopped up. but both dead after being chased down by their own boat that just kept circling them at wot till it wore them out and got them.... what a drag..

Yup, see these guys all the time, at least you can hear em coming for quite awhile.

Suprised there aren't more accidents on the river I fish, lots of stumps 6'' above the water in the middle of the river.

Crossing a wake going that fast is just dumb.

One of my neighbors has a 21' Triton with a 250 on it, he's up on Lake Erie tearing across the lake,"hey look at that giant ship" then he hits the wake.

Said he went 6' in the air at 70mph but he got very lucky and the boat landed straight and he just learned a valuable lesson, my boat goes 30 and that is plenty fast for me.

Glad the guy is alright, I'm sure he is alot smarter now.

That guy is lucky to be alive after that. I see guys running up and down the river here just as hard as they can go bouncing over wakes. They should make that video manditory viewing with the purchase of some of these hot rod bass boats.

FWIW I saw this on another boating/fishing site and I *think* the guy was testing/reviewing the boat - maybe for boattest.com?

imho

You can't fix stupid.
i dunno. dead fixes stupid....

he deserved everything he got. pure and simple unsafe operation.
i dunno about that either. the guy in the vid did a real good job of illustrating the need for your pfd and kill switch lanyard i thought. i'm sure none of us, not me anyways (ya, right). has ever gone and done high speed over some rollers.
if ya saw the whole video it starts out with the statement that the guys pfd and kill switch lanyard saved his life. i think that initially the vid was just showing off his boat. there were a couple of fly bys and then the vid of the wake crossing.
the two guys that died at branched oak last weekend would have been saved too, if they'd have had the foresight to wear the proper safety equipment for the activities they were doing.. which was high speed running on the pad (read, unstable) on an unknown to them lake and finally a high speed turn that caused the issue. these men that died were described by their sad spouses as avid fishermen with high boating skills and a wish to play by the rules... it didn't work out for them for one grave mistake. they became complacent about what they were doing. and i know none of us do that either... not me anyways. ya, right... the statement if yer not making mistakes your not doing anything comes to mind. anyone and everyone can and will get into trouble at one point or another while out boating. some mistakes just have more deadly consequences than others...

that video also demonstrates the need for a kill switch (pfd too of course). many old boats (mine included) do not come equipped with this feature. being poor and not having too fast of a boat and i'm still not equipped. but if there were any upgrades i might do to my boat. a kill switch lanyard might be one of them..

They should make that video manditory viewing
i agree. that would make a good video to show in boating safety class for sure..

He was way out of control before the wake; watch the hull wobble with only the prop in the water. I've seen the rednecks in cigarette-type boats run the river like that and it is scary how they have no control, and run in packs, so if No.1 has a problem (or slows/turns for a fishing boat in the way) the rest will go right over him. These boats are usually bought in the spring on credit and repossessed by the end of the summer. You know which ones by the way it's operated, and the mullet streaming back from the driver's head.
We don't have many bass boats on my waters but when I see the overpowered ones on trailers I'm glad I'm not on their lake. Sure, many good fishermen/boat drivers can run the faster boats responsibly, but too many others have no idea, or care.

That's it, just get rid of rednecks with mullets who buy in the spring on credit.... are you serious?? The worst operators in my neck of the woods are deep pocket individuals that think that the biggest/fastest is the best and also think that boats drive like cars (red or blue neck alike)

undoubtedly works at nasa in fuel research...or serves elected office.

without the p.f.d and kill switch lanyard, he'd have won a darwin award.

I agree the deep pocket newbies are bad b/c they think they're entitled to run everyone out of their way, and that the rule sof the road (such as passing port to port) don't apply to them. And the worst of them are the ones who hand they keys to their overpowered toys to their teenagers.
