Bass Boat - New Owner Help Request

I am a proud new third owner of a 1985 Ebbtide Dyna-Trak 156 fishing boat. Single hull - can't wait to post pics - you won't believe it is 27 years old!

Anyway, I put the drain plug in and launched it last weekend. Before the boat was off the trailer I heard a burbling sound. As a newbie, I wondered what that was, but continued. First ride was great - an hour later I pulled the boat from the water and back on the trailer and out of the lake, water poured out one of the open pores. For quite a while, what I thought was a LOT of water came out. I removed the drain plug an no water came out there.

Where did the water come in, where did it go, and where did it come from? Is that normal? Should I try to stop it?

I'm new to this as you can tell, so I will greatly appreciate questions, tips, explanations from users who know much more about this than me. I want to be safe, of course, but I want to preserve the condition of this boat, also.

Comments Welcome!

Thanks!

Aye, Captain! Thanks for your reply.

How can I find out? Can I test your suggested explanation?

You can test this by putting the boat in the water, listen for the bubbling sound, and then OPEN the live well to see if there is water in it If not, you had best check the live well plumbing at the back of the boat. There may be some drain and fill lines that are disconnected or broken so water simply runs into the bilge and it could sink your boat. And then make sure the bilge pump works.

I took the boat out again this weekend and this time I checked the livewell. You all were exactly right - the livewell filled up equal to the level of the water outside. When I got back on the trailer, water again came out the same place, but it emptied the livewell. Again, no other water was seen in the boat.

So - I assume all is live&well ! Thanks to all for your replies and ideas!

you can put a plug in the drain inside the livewell.
