I have recently (last fall) acquired my grandfathers bass boat that we fished in al the time..... its a 1988 1780V Procraft... what I'm wondering is if repainting the hull with Interlux Perfection will work? Currently all the metal flake is sun bleached and I'm thinking of going with solid white with the same color blue pinstriping as my truck.. ... just curious if its possible to restore the looks of this boat?

the boat is a Fiberglass bass boat..... I guess my real concerns stem from the pounding a bass boat can take and the speed across the water.. I know its used on yachts and what not... but yachts don't really get bounced around and run 65 mph..... so I'm wondering about the paint under that application.. will it hold up?

the color is in the fiberglass when it made watch rock the boat tv show on oln it showed them making a boat new, mine the bottom on water who see it fish what color do fish like mine was white or cream in color but my though it might help

Sorry Cowboy. I had your post confused with another. You can still look at the link and find useful info. <br /><br />Perfection is a 2-part linear polyurethane. It is an extremely tough paint that will flex with the hull. I would check with Interlux to be sure, but if you follow the defined process for Perfection, I don't think you will have any problems. Perfection is great to work with.

Thanks Dan,<br /><br />That's what I needed too hear.... I'm just trying to get all my chicks in one basket for when I want to start this project.. probably this fall after fishing season... Another question... can I use perfection below the water line on my bass boat also.... since my boat is trailered when not in use and not stored in a slip.. didn't know if that would work? Opinions?

All of the 2-part LPU paints are designed for the top side of the boat. What that means is that they shouldn't be immersed in water for long periods of time (say 3 or more days in a row). Many use the top side paint for the bottom of their trailered boat (including myself) and have had no problems. It will work fine for your needs.<br /><br />For long-term immersion, the paint manufacturers want you to use an epoxy barrier coat (water proofing) and then bottom paint (anti-fouling).<br /><br />The good news about using Perfection is that the recommend/required primer for is Interlux's epoxy barrier coat. The only difference is it is not applied as thickly if it is used as only a primer. <br /><br />Repainting a boat is easy. Prepping the boat is a lot of work. Make sure that you can't rescue your gel-coat before you decide to paint. Can you post a picture of your boat?

How about just painting the topside down to the rubrail and polishing up the bottom gelcoat as good as you can? Is the bottom chalky too?

I wouldn't say that the gelcoat is beyond rescue, but the boat is sun-bleached enough that it has no color left too it..... its all silver metal flak now.... and I think that if I paint it all gloss white with some blue accent paint to match my truck, it would look pretty nice.. maybe even use the same automotive paint color as my truck if that's fesable.... hmmmmm .. thanks to all for the input... I have some more questions so stay tuned and I will also try and find some pictures..

Another question with this project.... How is the best way to lift the hull off the trailer? Could use the tie-down eyelets (1 on the bow and the 2 on the back) attach cherry-pickers and pump up? Give me some Opinions for lifting to prepare & paint the bottom of the boat.
