Better don the fire retardant suit. Tracker's probably one of the two brands most often flamed on here. I won't light the match (after all, look at one of the boats in my siggy), but I will say they're not the best metal boat on the market because Tracker builds them to sell. That said, if that's what you can afford it will be fine. However, if cost is less of a factor there are many better choices.

Wow. That sucks. I'm lookin for a boat and was looking at a tracker pro team 175 txw and thought it looked pretty nice. I might be thinking twice now...

Triton makes similar boats too. Maybe better than tracker? I don't know, I never owned either.

Hold on big guy. Not saying you shouldn't buy the Tracker. If you like it it's at least worth a closer look. My point was not that Trackers aren't worth having, just that they aren't considered to be as well built as some others in their class. Doesn't necessarily mean one that's well cared for won't give you years of service. Glad to see you're keeping your options open regarding hull material. Hang in there. You'll get 'er figured out.;)

Noted. You're looking for a boat to fish the Susquehanna River as I recall.

Re: bass boat purchase

Tracker makes a nice entry level aluminum bass boat. I have fished from them and they are okay.

Nice set up. Decent lifespan if not abused. Good trailer which matches the boat.

Now the bad......

They usually come as an "underpowered" package and you need to ramp up the power to get adequate performance. They are not as rugged as other aluminum boats or fiberglass boats. The "no haggle" 175 they have is okay with the 60 Hp but you will get bored with the 60 pretty fast. The 175 is actually rated for 75 HP which makes it scoot better. You will not see 50 mph until you are up over 100 hp as a rule

Santam, looks as though some stole your show! Let's see if we can get it back on track. There's not a thing wrong with Tracker Boats. Yes, I'll agree;.....it's not the #1 boat among pro anglers, but I don't think anyone on this forum is a tour basser, myself included. There's a ton of Tracker Bass Boats sold out there and if I were in the market for a new one, I'd look there as well. You take care of her and she'll take care of you!! Good luck with the search.

You get what you pay for most of the time. I have not been impressed with Tracker products.

If you are looking at used, maintenance means more than the name stickers on the side. If you are looking new, then you can dictate what the maintenance is, and as such, you will determine how the boat will hold up. I'd say for what you are looking at, a Tracker would be fine. Another to look at would be G3's. Good luck and try not to get too hung up on make. If it floats and does what you want it to, the fish won't care what brand it is!

Re: bass boat purchase

In 2007 I changed from a large Fiberglass bass boat to Aluminum. I looked long and hard at the tin boats out there and decided on a Triton VT 17.
I have had more fun with this boat both fishing and adding options to it. I repowered it last year from the original 30Hp to a 75 Hp.

Here is a slide show of mine with various stages of changes I have made .
Also BBC (Bass Boat Central) has a Tin Boat section that will give you all kinds of info on the various models, their pluses and minuses.

Re: bass boat purchase

Friend of mine has a Tracker with a 90 hp on the back. He is happy. It runs a little over 40 mph with a SS prop on GPS.

It may not be the best but he fishes like crazy outta that thing with his 2 boys and generally come home with big smiles on their faces...
