That is always sad to read about. Unfortunately, people in a hurry and familiar with the roads/lakes are usually the ones to cause accidents. With that familiarity comes overconfidence and complacency. You think you know where everything is, so you drive faster never thinking about what could have changed, like someone else being there. Most car accidents happen within 5 miles of the home, as people become overconfident due to the familiarity of the neighborhood. Not surprised that it was someone who knew the lake very well.
This little girl lost her parents because someone wanted to weigh-in for a fishing tournament. Was it really worth it? Those guys will have to live with that the rest of their lives.
Slow down when visibility is low, the life you save could be your own. No fish or tournament is worth someone's life.
