Well Fathers day is coming Sunday so my wife and kids want to get me a gift so I asked for a trolling motor for my 16' aluminum V bottom Lowe. I will mainly use it for bass fishing in the local lakes and for crabbing the bay creeks. I had a Minn Kota 30lb thrust on a past boat that worked great and seem to drain the battery very slowly. I could fish all day on one battery. Anyway I went to Bass Proshops last night to pick out a new motor and really was only looking to spend $100.00 since I like the motor that I had in the past and for $100.00 you couldn't beat it. I looked at the Motor Guide 30lb and the Minn Kota 30lb and the Prowler (Bass Proshops Brand) 30lb. All Right around $100.00. I really didn't care for the appearance of the Motor Guide and I didn't like that the handle didn't telescope out. This is a nice feature if you are standing etc. The Minn Kota has the telescoping handle that I like but has a plastic composite mounting bracket to secure it to the boat. I snaped one once when I forgot to lift the trolling motor before taking off with the gas motor, this was my fault but had it been a metal bracket I think it would not have broken, needless to say I lost the motor in the river. NOW to my real question! I saw that Bass Proshops has there own Brand Trolling motor (Prowler) and it looked great. It has the telescoping handle, metal mounting bracket, and nice sleek appearance. The one that I was looking at is on sale. It's the Prowler T55/40 and it's on sale for $149.99. It's has 55lbs of thrust and a 40" shaft. Overall it looks great but my concern is battery life and reliability / durability. Has anyone on here tried or own one of these trolling motors? I think the regular price is over $200.00. I had planed to spend around $100.00 but for only $50.00 I will be getting a huge increase in thrust which would be nice when trying to get to that favorite spot on the lake or if it?s windy or ruff water. Any thoughts on this motor? Thanks
