Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

Caught 3 fish yesterday, 5.44 lbs...
Winning team caught 20.4 lbs

Man, they really caught the fish on the Rig. Several good limits on the day most all caught using the Brushhog rigging grass on main lake points or secondary points...

My partner was focused more on flipping timber...
We just didn't start the day on the right pattern...
I knew it also but by the time I got him to change it was a little too late and he wasn't into it..

First two tournaments of our season did not get off the ground...water levels have been way down and word has gotten around so guys in the club opted out for better waters in other divisions.
Fished Potato Creek ( Indiana) on 6/4.
We caught alot of fish...17...not a single keeper ( 14 inch limit) Had a few good bags role in from other boats, but nothing I would call spectacular.
Big Bass was 4.46...was only one other "good" sized fish in its range at 3.42.

Fished the Calumet River/Lake on 6/10...KILLER DAY!!!!
every boat had its limit. Had some SWEET smallies roll into the scales!!!! 4-5-6 lbs smallies. Beautiful fish!
Wife and I opted to stay on the river for the large mouths...were culling fish by 9 am...
had some good weights come in! Was great day other than fishing in the rain all day and freezing my butt off. was worth it though!

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

I did my second ABA tournament yesterday as a non-boater. Got paired up with a good guy that has been tournament fishing for six years. I learned allot. He schooled me on skippin and flippin. I fish most of the day going back and forth between a tube and a jig. But caught my one keeper fish on the old reliable spinner bait. This guy fished faster than KVD. I couldn't keep up. He was a pitchin, flippin, skippin machine. Made me realize just how much work I need to do if I'm ever going to get competitive.

I'm planning for next weekend. Everyone else is going to be pounding the shoreline. I'm going to to try and dropshot in some deeper water. My question is, do you guys think I should go shallow early, and fish the deeper water mid day. Or go straight for the deep water first.

Get there when it still dark with just enough light for you to see what you're doing and then works the shallow with a buzz bait or popper. Move quickly, don't stay on one spot for too long, i.e 50 yds on each side of a point then go to the next one. Once it get bright, go deep.

Im with gonefishie,go shallow then deep.unless your in a tourny and you know theres fish there, hit them first,if you dont get bite in a few minutes then move shallow and later come back.but this really depeands on the lake or river system your fishing.IMO

I'm going to hit the docks first with a tube or a jig before they get beat to death. Then go deeper on some humps with the drop-shot. That's the plan, thanks.

I see your point, but honestly I would go for the reaction feeding bite early with spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, buzzbaits, etc. Docks are for when the sun is high.

You're right. I should probably try and hit some shallow structure first. Then hit the humps, then hit the docks mid day.

Thanks

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

Summary last month or so.
Sunday hus/wife tourny...Missed a NICE one, going on a three week "loosing hooked fish jinx" now...it's getting old and really upseting. One keeper to come in last place other than a ZERO.

Thursday evening 6-9 tourny....One little keeper and lost another nice fish. (Iike a golfer that's lost his swing).

Sat club tourny....Again..hooked and lost a whopper. Non boater sat in the back and won the tourny by a 6lb margin (back of the boat was hot...front was cold as ice). "I may be just a guide at this point".

Tuesday evening 6-9 tourny....I am just the guide. Won the tourny due to partner catching 3 nice fish. Big bass went to another boat. Again, I lost what felt like a very large fish. (how many ways can a person re-evaluate their hookseting technique? Too hard, not hard enough?? I give up)

Thursday evening 6-9 tourny....Me two small keepers, partner a nice one. AFREAKINGAGAIN!! Saw this one, and it was a MONSTER. 10 seconds into the fight and he was gone. Won the tourny, but not big bass.

Big bass Bonanza 3 days for $300k in dist prize money. Partner caught a limit every day but nothing big enough to justify weighing. I managed dinks, dinks, dinks. Now I'm not even missing any big fish...I've just lost them completely.

Tues evening 6-9 tourny....Nothing at all.

Thursday evening 6-9 tourny. FINALLY got one in the boat. 5.33# was good enough for big bass money. But, that's all we could find other than short fish. Hopefully I "found my swing".

Got skunked this weekend, but I learned two good lessons from my partner. You need super low vis line to drop shot, and it's tough to beat a Senko.

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

Saturday club tourny: Once again, I'm just the guide. Tourny was won from the back of my boat with 4 fish 12lbs. At least I was in the hunt. Came in third with 9.5lbs. AND...didn't really "miss/loose" any hooked fish.

Sunday couples tournament: 40 boat field. Didn't catch a keeper after 7:30am. Made for a long and gruelling day. Glass smooth water, middle of the lake, 95 degrees, casting at what "looks" like nothing (mid lake hump underneath). BUT, the three fish we caught before 7:30 hung in there to give us 3rd and a nice paycheck.

Tuesday evening 6-9 local tourny: One decent fish didn't do much for us and I lost my wife as a partner for a week or so. She somehow pulled some tendons in her arm (on a dink no less). Guess just a freak thing in arm position. I've had the same from throwing and KNOW it's one of the worst "pains" a person can have, but, she be back in a couple of weeks and that's a good thing. She catches the bigger fish most days.
