Battery Boosters

Hi.<br />Is it safe to use a battery booster to jump start a flat battery on my Yammie 115hp 4 stroke.<br /><br />I am concerned about power surges and spikes that may damage the computer. I was told that if the earth lead of the booster was earthed to the boat and not the dead battery it is ok. Is this correct and is it a good idea to use a battery booster as a backup in the first place?<br /><br />Thanks.

Hard to imagine a good ground hooking that lead to the boat instead of the battery. Obviously, where practical, charging the battery would be better than the booster. If the battery is low and not dead, use of the booster should work OK. Many problems with the electronics can be caused if you accidentally reverse the leads though.
