Battery Cables

The battery cables on my boat are the type that go on the battery w/ a wing nut. I want to replace them w/ones that use the automotive style connectors on the battery.

Are there premade cables out there (can't seem to find them) that have the automotive connector factory installed or do I just buy the cables and connectors separately and cut the wire to fit?

I don't know where you are located, but to answer your question, yes, they do make cables with top post connections made on the cable. I see them at auto parts stores all the time. You want to avoid clamp-on styles cables ends if possible, as they are a great place for corrosion to start.

I clean out about six or eight wing nuts a year from the bilge.

If you replace your cables, make sure you use marine cables and not automotive cables. The marine cables have plated wire to prevent internal corrosion. Auto cables will work fine for a season or two, then they'll drive you crazy chasing electrical problems caused by the bad cables.
