Any experts out there that can answer my two questions. ?

My current equipment:
2 Deep cycle marine batteries hooked up in parrellel (++ , --) with a 1+2+ Combo switch. One used as a starter battery and backup for my 175 Mercruiser. Although I alternate batteries just to charge, I have never needed a backup in 8 years.(still want one though).

I am adding Engine mount Minn Kota (160lb) 24V and a Third deep cycle Battery. The Electric motor will be used for trollling, but at best 2-3 hours at a time and only a few times a year. The motor is more for a back up transportation, rather than get a small outboard.

I would like to keep my battery total to three. As long as all three can continued to be charged when I run the engine. If desparate, can always disconnect one of the 24 volt series battery for starter backup.

My plan is to have one starter, plus two Batteries in series to produce 24 volts.

My questions:
1) Do they make a battery switch that I can swap from a 12 volt starter to the 24 volt trolling motor and still cahrge all three? If so, that leads to my next question.

2) Would something like Dual Pro 12/24/36 Volt Recreation Series Charger be what I need. According to the manufacturers info, this unit can charge all three and it makes no difference if its a 12v,24v or any combination
Anyone offer suggestions?

Thanks

The on board charger will solve your problem. With it you will be assured of having 3 fully charged batteries at the start of the day. When you get home plug it in and forget it until time to go again.
