My deep cycle battery was not acting like it should so I checked the water level. It is too low to see under the caps. Two of my friends were there when we checked it and we had a difference of opinion. One said to use tap water and the other said to go to the auto parts store and get electrolite(sp). I thought you were supposed to use distilled water(which is what I have always used). Who is right and how high do I fill the battery cells?

thanks
longshot

Re: battery charging?

Distilled water for filling Batteries and then do a full charge with an automatic battery charger.

Using the alternator to charge a battery which cannot hold 12 volts can cause the alternator to fail.

Actually you are both right. One way just costs a little more.

Longshot
If you have not spilled any acid then should fill with distalled water. Fill to bottom of plastic, usually makes a diamond shape or eye but each a little different. Make sure you charge it after you fill it.
