battery charging

I have a problem and I hope someone has the solution. I have a boat that has 3 batteries. One battery is for the outboard motor and is of no concern here as it is on its own circuit. Two batteries were for the 12 volt trolling motor. I have a promatic 30-3 charger that charged all three batteries. Everything worked just fine. Then, the trolling motor went kaput and I upgraded to a 24 volt trolling motor and rewired the batteries to produce 24 volts. Now I cannot use the charger to charge all three batteries at the same time and I don't want to invest in a 24 volt charging system. So, what I have in mind to do is to find a switch that I can run the positive cable from one battery to a lug on a switch, run the positive lead from the charger to a 2nd lug on the switch and then the third lug on the switch will go back to the battery. This way I don't have to remove the positive lead on the battery each time I want to charge it. Can you help me find that switch, or in the alternative, explain how I can charge all three batteries at the same time?? Thanks, Ferris

Re: battery charging

You would probaly have better luck posting this under electrics in the maint. repair section.
You need to check the charger. Odds are it is a 12 volt only charger and you should have to convert back to a 12V to charge all three at once.
Otherwise....I Dunno.

Re: battery charging

Ferris,

I charge a 24V trolling system by simply disconnecting the cable between the two 12V batteries that causes them to be in series. Then I charge the two 12V batteries. Not the most convenient thing but cheap.
