Hi there good people. Can I charge my battery from my 200 20hp 1971 merc. Do I connect the wires to the red thing next to the flywheel (dynamo?) I still have'nt fixed my fuel problem but am in the process of trying some of your ideas. Imagine what a happy place the world would be if evereyone was a Boaty like me! Thanx for all your help.

Re: Battery connection

The proper way is to discontect your battery cables at the battery ,pop bat covers off if equipped with removable ones ,connect your charger to the battery posts not the cables ,this way will save all your expensive electrical components from blowing

Re: Battery connection

As dolluper says..disconnect the cables or if your have an isolator on the battery, just turn it off to braek the circuit and connect the charger to the terminals. I don't think any harm will come from connecting a trickle charger to the battery which is connected up as I have done it a few times with no ill effects.. But best be safe.. Switchboxes are VERY costly.
