Battery Corrosion

What is the best way to prevent battery corrosion? The posts and cables on my starting battery get corroded very quickly. This is not the case on my other battery. Is this a sign that my battery is failing?

You will need to clean them real well, even sand or file them if needed.<br />Then put a very thin coating of anti-oxidant conductive grease.<br />Attach your cables and put a coat on them too.<br /><br />Available at any hardware store, radio shack, auto parts store.<br />Comes in a little tube for $3.49

Get some baking soda and an old toothbrush and take the terminals off of the post and get the baking soda everywhere.The wire brush everywhere or sand.Clean it with fresh water and coat all surfaces and terminals with die-electric grease.You can also use lithium grease or vaseline.Take a look inside the cover of the main wires to be sure the acid and corrosion has not traveled up the wire.If there is anything green in there it will come back.Charlie

I buy those little brass tooth-brush sized things to clean my marie battery connections. <br /><br />By conductive grease do you mean di electric compound? The stuff I have is silicone based, not really a grease. Of course, it's very grease-like.

Auto parts stores carry appropriate products. The one I use is a spray.

Thanks for the advice. Bought a new battery, a wire brush post cleaner and some spray to prevent corrosion. All cleaned up and ready to go!
