Is there a code on a battery that tells of the date it was made? Does it matter if its a year old or even older? Its that time of year that I have to replace some batteries on various things, would like to get the most resently built ones.
You should be able to find a small sticker on the side. Its never a part of the actual battery label. It will be a letter and a number. The letter is the month (A = Jan; B = Feb) and the number will be last number of the year. Example: if the sticker is D6, that would make the build date of April 2006.
GJM, there also should be letters and numbers matching the build date melted into the battery [done with a hot iron style stamp]. A lot of times the sticker is put on when its shipped out , and the date circle is pulled out of the label when its sold[month and year] whereas the "melted" date is when its made. These figures should be at the top corner of the battery. Hope this helps .moparman
Thankyou very much for the info. Does it matter if a battery is say, 8 years old? My neighbor has a person who has 20 batteries for sail at 10 bucks apiece, made in 2002. They are heavy duty truck batteries. Made in Wisconsin. Not that I'm going to use them in my boats, just for my own trucks ect....
It wouldn't matter when they were built as much as when they were filled with acid and put into service. 7 year old battery? Time to haul them to the scrap yard.
